Hinge clamps at the ready, the Brompton World Championship 2014 has been announced

July 2014 will see the 9th annual Brompton World Championship return to the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit, South West England. Brompton Bicycle is looking forward to welcoming riders old and new for this most English of races.

The main event – a mad dash to unfold bikes, followed by a 15km race around the Goodwood track on Brompton bicycles, spurred on by the crowd’s roar on the grandstand – is hugely popular and saw an astonishing 800 riders at the starting line last year. Early bird registration has attracted over 180 keen Brompton riders already and so 2014 is set to be even bigger than last year.

The weekend’s Treble of events will consist of the Brompton World Championship, the fast paced Brompton Sprint and a non-competitive Brompton Meander. The Meander is an adaptation of the previous Marathon event and will take Bromptoneers on a tour through the picturesque countryside of West Sussex, with visits to local producers along the way. Those hardy enough to compete in all three Brompton events will be going head to head for the title of Treble Champion.

Will Butler-Adams, Managing Director of Brompton Bicycle says of the Championship:

“This event is of paramount importance to us at Brompton, it is our biggest opportunity to give something back to the Brompton community and meet the people from all over the world who ride our bikes. Racing on a new track last year was exhilarating, and I think I speak for a lot of Brompton owners when I say I’m looking forward to beating my time this year!”

As well as attracting participants from around the UK, the Brompton World Championship has a strong international reputation and there will be a record 16 satellite events taking place all over the world this year. From Mexico to Japan, Germany to Australia, the winners from each National Championship will travel to the UK to compete for the title of World Champion at Goodwood.

Brompton are also delighted to announce that the BWC will take place as first of the first ever Brompton Cycling festival; a glorious day out featuring a wide variety of rides, race and activities for the whole family.
